Memorial Day 2025

Every day in some way Memorial Day is in our hearts, thoughts of men and women who gave their lives for the United States. The word “united” is what they defended. This past weekend for Americans was a time for “re-union,” making new memories with families and friends. All made possible by the past sacrifices of an honorable military. Let our focus be on the continuing care of our military; healthcare, housing, benefits.

Let’s also remember firefighters who have saved lives, often at their own peril.  If they avoided death in an active fire, chances of occupational cancer are high.

Yet these tireless men and women when faced with cancer are subjected to bureaucracy, insurance rejection, delays, or lack of coverage. After the trauma of chemo or radiation, many are forced to return to work or face financial ruin.

Like our military, firefighters deserve our support and favorable healthcare legislation.  Like our military, often firefighters are taken for granted, their selfless actions expected. Like our military, firefighters take on the responsibilities with full knowledge of the dangers.

On a holiday that symbolizes remembrance of the military fallen, we hold up those who defended and protected us with fatal consequences to themselves. Let's do our part to defend and protect them.
