The National Firefighter Registry for Cancer (NFR) was nearly scrapped. The NFR was created for research into the high rates of occupational deaths, which is proven by 75% of line-of-deaths among firefighters. After being closed in April 2025, the NFR was reopened in May 2025, thanks to pressure from the firefighting industry. Here's a brief history and breakdown of what happened.
